Default Powell Pickup...

Just wonderin if anyone here has ever seen a Powell Pickup? My uncle used to have one back in the 50's or early 60's. They we're quite the "Art Deco" style truck and as I understand they were made in Southern Califonia and used Chrysler running gear...I can find very little info on the net ,I have found a website that shows a couple pictures, thats about it.Powell also made Scooters.....
They were kinda Kool looking, and would really be neat to have one today. There are NO family pictures of that truck, sure wish I had one.JN

THE POWELL IS THE RAREST US PICKUP THAT WAS EVER BUILT. THE TRUCKS WERE MADE IN LIMITED NUMBERS BY THE POWELL MANUFACTURING COMPANY IN COMPTON CALIFORNIA WHO SPECIALIZED IN BUILDING GOOD QUALITY HEAVY EQUIPMENT AND WHO IS WELL KNOWN FOR THEIR RARE AND SOUGHT AFTER VINTAGE MOTOR SCOOTERS. THE TRUCKS UTILIZE A PLYMOUTH DRIVETRAIN SO SERVICE IS MADE SIMPLE. THIS EXAMPLE HAS BEEN IN ARIZONA FOR THE LAST 30 YEARS AND IS VERY CORRECT AND ORIGINAL THROUGHOUT ENGINE - 6 CYL

Looks a bit like a Jeep, so forgive me for not having heard of it.

Default Powell Pick Up

Thank's for the picture !! I'd like to see what the Station Wagons looked like, I wonder if they shared the same boxy lines? I can remember riding in the truck but little else about it. I think it was powder blue If I recall correctly.
There was another Powell that used to sit on a hill over looking Bay City, Orygun (North Of Tillamook,South of Seaside). That truck sat there for years, all you could see was the front grill from the highway (US 101) down below as you drove by and you had to know where to look.....It's long gone now I suppose.....Thank's Again ! One of the coolest parts to both the wagons and the pickups were the storage devices built into the body, specifically for fishing equipment. That the Powell brothers built said devices out of furnace ducting just adds coolness points.

I'd love to see someone build a kustom out of these, just for rarity and shock value.

Is it me, or do those look like hinges on the front of the fenders? Swing open? Very Cool...
